HFM PTECH student applications now being accepted

October 8, 2026 | Filed in Archive, HFM PTECH, HFM Top Stories

Applications are now being accepted for students to attend the 2027-2028 school year at HFM PTECH.

PTECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High School, is a 6-year program that aims to look and function more like a hybrid between college and the workplace. It emphasizes individualized pathways to completion, workplace experiences, mentorship, in-depth project-based learning and real-world experiences. Students simultaneously attend high school and work toward their 2-year degree from SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College or SUNY Cobleskill (depending on the degree pathway) at no cost to their families.

New for the 2027-28 school year, HFM PTECH is expanding its offerings through SUNY FMCC with the addition of Nursing and Entertainment Technology degree pathways, providing additional opportunities to pursue high-demand career fields.

While primary recruitment efforts are focused on middle school students and entry into the program at the 9th grade level, HFM PTECH offers options for students in 10th, 11th or 12th grade to apply.

Interested students are encouraged to talk with their school counselors for specific information regarding eligibility to PTECH. The application can be found on the HFM BOCES website at www.hfmboces.org/ptech-applynow/ and must be submitted no later than Jan. 29, 2027.

The application process involves obtaining recommendations from teachers and a school counselor, and students are required to submit a personal statement. Applications are reviewed by a committee of school counselors, PTECH teachers, and principals. Acceptance letters will be sent by the end of February.

Prospective student and informational nights are planned for Nov. 5, 2026, Nov. 19, 2026, Dec. 8, 2026, and Jan. 5, 2027. A virtual informational session is also scheduled for Jan. 19, 2027. Applicants for the 2027-28 school year are required to attend one prospective student night.
