The HFM BOCES Board has appointed Jason E. Harmon as the organization’s next District Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer, following action taken at its Sept. 30 meeting.
Harmon currently serves as the Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Performance Improvement & Management Services at the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and brings more than two decades of experience supporting educational improvement, organizational leadership, and school district success across the state.
“We are pleased to welcome Jason Harmon to HFM BOCES,” said Matt Sullivan, president of the HFM BOCES Board. “His career has been defined by service to students, educators, and school communities throughout New York, and his collaborative leadership style, deep understanding of public education, and experience at the State Education Department make him exceptionally well suited to lead us into the future.”
Harmon has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout his career, including executive positions with the New York State Education Department since 2013, and at Greater Southern Tier BOCES, where he worked closely with school districts on improvement initiatives, accountability, grant programs, and operational support.
“I am particularly drawn to the vision and values HFM BOCES identifies for itself. The guiding slogan “Partner. Advocate. Leader.” speaks clearly to the organization’s commitment to responding to the needs of component district students, leaders, and communities with dedication and passion,” said Harmon. “That commitment reflects the same values that have guided my career. I’m excited to join the HFM BOCES community and lead the organization into the future.”
Harmon will begin the transition to HFM on October 19. He lives in Ballston Spa, N.Y. with his wife, Julie, and their four children.
