The Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES Board of Education appointed Dan Salvagni as the organization’s next Director of Special Education at its meeting on Aug. 30. Salvagni will assume his new role on Nov. 1, allowing for a two month transition prior to the retirement of longtime Director of Special Education Mike Jacob, who is set to retire in January.

“I am honored to be selected as the new Director of Special Education. I look forward to serving our students, families and school districts in this new role,” Salvagni said.

A native of St. Johnsville, Salvagni has spent his entire career working in education as a teacher and administrator. He was hired by HFM BOCES in September 1994 as a Career & Technical Education teacher. A short time later he moved into a teaching position in the Special Education division at CTE. He would eventually go on to become the coordinator of work-based learning, and in 2007 he was promoted to the role of Administrative Coordinator in Special Education, primarily focusing on elementary Special Education programs.

HFM BOCES District Superintendent Dr. David Ziskin commented, “Dan has proven himself to be a dedicated educator and leader at HFM BOCES; his hands-on experience, extensive knowledge of our programs and services, and supportive nature make him well-suited for the position. We look forward to the continued growth of our programs under his direction.”

Salvagni attended Herkimer County Community College where he earned his associate degree in accounting and SUNY Oswego earning a bachelor’s degree in business education. He also earned his master’s degree in reading from the University at Albany and completed his school administration coursework through The College of St. Rose.

He lives in Gloversville with his wife Lori and has two children, Sam and Jenna.
