HFM Career and Technical Education (CTE) students Jack Kuchark and Charlotte Nare have been recognized with the Silent Servant Scholarship Award from the Peter R. Marsh Foundation in honor of their commitment to volunteer service and dedication to helping others.
The $595 scholarship is awarded to public high school students who quietly make a difference through selfless acts of service. Both Kuchark and Nare were selected for their empathy, generosity, and dedication to improving their schools and communities.
Kuchark, a senior from Gloversville Enlarged School District, is enrolled in the New Visions Education CTE program. He volunteers at Perth Bible Church, where he gives his time to support community outreach efforts. During the holiday season, he worked alongside a team of volunteers to prepare care packages for children and families in need.
In addition to his church involvement, Kuchark is active in Key Club, National Honor Society, Masterminds, and the GHS Drama Club. He has participated in the district’s Santa Project, volunteered at food drives for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, and mentored students at Park Terrace Elementary School.
Kuchark said being selected for the Silent Servant Scholarship was an uplifting moment.
“I was really excited when I found out,” he said. “I was feeling a bit down lately after realizing I made a mistake on other scholarship paperwork and missed out on those opportunities, so getting this award made me really happy.”
Kuchark will attend SUNY Fulton‑Montgomery Community College in the fall, followed by SUNY Cortland, where he plans to dual major in adolescence education and special education. He hopes to teach high school special education.
HFM CTE Administrative Coordinator Michael Ott said both students represent the values at the heart of career and technical education.
“Jack and Charlotte exemplify the best of CTE. Their commitment to their community shines through their chosen career paths as they will continue to make our region a better place. HFM is lucky to have these two entering the education and medical fields as they will continue to have a positive impact on everyone they work with.”
Nare, a senior from Canajoharie Central School District and a student in the Medical Assisting CTE program, has also made a meaningful difference through her commitment to service.
She has volunteered as part of the Helping Hands program at the Palatine Bridge Nursing Home, where she spent time with residents offering companionship and support. She also works as a Patient Care Technician at Saint Mary’s Hospital. Outside of her volunteer and professional commitments, she is an active member of her school’s basketball and volleyball teams, and is involved in National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).
Like Kuchark, Nare said she was grateful to be nominated for the award.
“It really means something to be recognized by the counselors and administrators here at CTE,” Nare said. “I try to give my best effort in everything I do, so to have that noticed is very rewarding.”
Nare plans to attend SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College in the fall to pursue nursing and hopes to one day work as a labor and delivery nurse.
