The Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES Board of Education has appointed Dr. James Niedermeier as Director of Early College Programs and principal of the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (PTECH) program.

I am excited to join HFM BOCES. I have been committed to providing early college programs throughout my entire career and this role will allow me to further that mission,” said Niedemeier.

With more than two decades of experience in education, Niedermeier has served as a classroom teacher, building principal, and as a superintendent of schools. He brings a deep understanding of early college programs and regional high schools like HFM PTECH, having worked closely with them for the past 10 years.

Niedermeier will lead the day-to-day operations of HFM PTECH and assist districts in coordinating their programs that allow high school students to earn college credits before high school graduation. These initiatives aim to give students a strong foundation for future academic and career success.

“Dr. Niedermeier’s proven track record as a teacher, principal and superintendent gives him a unique perspective and the insight needed to continue to elevate our program,” said Jay DeTraglia, HFM BOCES Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services. “We’re excited to welcome a leader whose passion and expertise will undoubtedly strengthen our mission to prepare students for college and career success.”

Niedermeier most recently served as Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability at Questar III BOCES. His previous roles include Superintendent of the Duanesburg Central School District and Principal/Chief Academic Officer at Tech Valley High School in Albany.

He holds a doctorate in educational leadership and administration from The Sage Colleges, a master’s degree in English language and literature from SUNY Brockport, a bachelor’s degree from Elmira College, and certificates of advanced study from SUNY Oswego and the University of Rochester.

“HFM PTECH has the potential to be one of the very best early college programs in the state,” Niedermeier stated. “Its strong relationships with colleges, the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce, and its component school districts set it apart. I’m eager to help its dedicated staff achieve this goal.”
