Parker is a Health Studies student at HFM PTECH who, despite knowing he wanted to work in healthcare, was unsure of what area would be best, but his experiences at PTECH changed that.
“I realized I’m really interested in emergency medicine,” said Parker. “My internship gave me an idea of what a day looks like for the nurses and technicians that work here, it was interesting to see the ebb and flow of it.”
Parker recently finished an internship in the ICU and Radiology departments at St. Mary’s Healthcare, and learned about different medication administration, patient visits, and the necessary paperwork and record keeping that comes with the job. After graduation this spring, Parker will be attending SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College in the nursing program. He feels the connections he has created at PTECH will help him as he pursues his RN degree and potential future employment.

“The connections and resources available to me have been great,” said Parker. “First with my professors at FMCC who have worked in the medical field, and now with the staff I’ve met at St. Mary’s, I know they’re all willing to help me.”
Tabitha Sabater, Radiology Department Manager, had nothing but good things to say about Parker and the partnership with HFM BOCES.
“So much of our staff has come from BOCES programs,” said Sabater. “Like other PTECH students, Parker came in ready to learn, and we’re happy to provide this foundational experience. Keep ‘em coming!”
