Health Studies student Samantha Seydi’s recent internship at The Family Counseling Center proved to be a meaningful opportunity and strengthened her goal of becoming a counselor. More certain than ever about her future, she plans to further her education in the psychology field.
“I really wanted to gain a better understanding of what counselors do on a day to day basis and see whether that fits with my future plans,” said Samantha. “I’m excited for what lies ahead.”

Samantha spent her days meeting staff members, asking thoughtful questions, and observing how the center works to meet the needs of individuals and the community. She shared that her time spent working with the staff at the center was wonderful.
“The Family Counseling Center creates an environment where people are welcomed and where people are kind to each other, so each interaction I had was rewarding and made being in an unfamiliar environment very easy,” she said.
She also put her PTECH skills to work, noting that PTECH has helped her grow confident in talking with professionals, which is something she used throughout her internship when engaging with staff. Looking back, Samantha said she couldn’t pick just one favorite part of the experience. Instead, she described the entire internship in just a few words.
