HFM CTE Students Selected as Silent Servant Scholarship Award winners

HFM Career & Technical Education (CTE) students Collin Eakin and Destenie Lizius have been honored with the Silent Servant Scholarship Award from the Peter R. Marsh Foundation in recognition of their dedication to volunteer service.

The prestigious $595 scholarship is awarded to public high school students who demonstrate empathy and compassion through selfless acts of service. Eakin and Lizius have shown an exceptional commitment to making a positive impact in their schools and communities.

Eakin, a senior from Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School District, is enrolled in the Skilled Trades CTE program. He has volunteered his time at numerous school events, including book fairs and dances, reading to elementary students, serving as a volunteer umpire for his local Little League, and participating in roadside cleanups.

Kristina Marshall, Administrative Coordinator for HFM CTE, praised Eakin’s leadership and dedication.

“Collin’s commitment to both his studies and his community speaks volumes about his character,” said Marshall. “Whether he’s volunteering at school events, reading to younger students, or giving his time to support local initiatives, he demonstrates an unwavering commitment to making a difference.”

Eakin plans on attending Hudson Valley Community College in the fall to study Construction Management. He is currently employed by BBL Construction as an intern project manager and hopes to become a project manager in the future.

Lizius, a senior at Greater Amsterdam School District and a student in the Medical Assisting CTE program, has also made a significant impact through her volunteer efforts. She serves as a blood donor ambassador for the American Red Cross, assists patients at St. Mary’s Healthcare, and is a member of the New York State Youth Leadership Board Council. Additionally, she is an active member of her school’s track and field team and athletic leadership club.

HFM CTE Medical Assisting instructor Lauren Wohlgemuth commended Lizius’ commitment to excellence.

“Destenie is a mature, independent learner who demonstrates strong critical thinking skills and consistently takes initiative in both academic and professional settings,” said Wohlgemuth. “Her genuine character, reliability, and ability to work with autonomy set her apart as a standout student. This well-earned academic scholarship reflects her dedication and potential for continued success.”

Lizius plans to attend the University of Michigan to study biology, with aspirations of becoming a doctor and continuing to serve her community by advocating for vulnerable populations.
