Giana is a senior at PTECH in the health studies pathway who originally wanted to work as a therapist and has now opened her mind to the many possibilities in the healthcare field.
“This internship has really given me a broader perspective on what I want to do with my future,” said Giana. “I really never thought of working at a hospital, but there are so many options here.”

Giana completed her internship in case management, working in different departments including the ICU. There she learned exactly how thorough hospitals need to be when obtaining and recording patient information. She enjoyed the experience and interactions with the staff, and credits PTECH with giving her the confidence needed to work in a professional environment.
“I was very shy when I first came to PTECH,” said Giana. “If it wasn’t for all of the presentations and interactions with business partners, I never would have been able to complete this internship.”
Staff member Briana VanSchaick noted that Giana really took advantage of the opportunity to learn all she could during her time at St. Mary’s. The process was a productive time for both of them.
“She really was very outgoing and asked a lot of questions. She didn’t just sit there, she got involved in the process and was very engaging,” said VanSchaick. “It was also great to have someone shadowing and learning from me, it made me slow down and be more deliberate with my work.”
Hospitals offer a myriad of job opportunities in the medical field. HFM BOCES is proud to partner with our local healthcare facilities and showcase the numerous internships our students take part in each year.
