Social Studies teacher

Tell us a little about your background.
I grew up in Johnstown (Ephratah). I graduated from Johnstown High School and went on to earn an associate degree from Fulton Montgomery Community College. I earned my Bachelor of Arts from the College of St. Rose and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and New York University.
My job experiences before becoming a teacher include being a housekeeper, a musician and a dog walker.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I loved learning about history and civics from a young age and have a passion for sharing it with other people. It’s rewarding to learn and grow with my students and to encourage them to make a positive difference every day.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I enjoy re-enacting military and civilian scenarios in the American Civil War and World War I periods. I also like punk rock, motorcycle riding and traveling.
If you were able to talk to your 15-year-old self about life, careers and happiness, what advice would you give?
Be kind, be honest with yourself and others, stay humble, and be persistent.
