SCHOOL COUNSELORJennifer Sponnoble

Mrs. Sponnoble’s role as school counselor goes beyond the traditional sense of the title. She’s the school’s go-to person for the wide range of challenges a new and growing school faces.

In addition to her experience as an eighth-grade school counselor at Gloversville Middle School, she also has served in that role in the Mayfield school district. Prior to her role at PTECH, Sponnoble spent two years as the eighth-grade counselor at Gloversville Middle School.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University at Albany and her master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Sage Graduate School.

In her own words

From what do you draw inspiration in your life/education career?

I am inspired by other professionals that I’ve crossed paths with throughout my career, and I strive to incorporate their qualities into my daily life.  At the end of the day, if I’ve helped one student get through a tough time or to find answers to questions, I feel accomplished.

Why did you choose to work in education, or what do you enjoy most about it?

I knew since high school that I wanted to work with children. Originally, I set out to become a secondary English education teacher because I was inspired by my high school English teachers. When I began to study psychology and sociology in college, I became more interested in the larger socioeconomic factors that operate in our lives. I realized that there was more to educating students than simply teaching them ELA, math, science, social studies, etc.  I also know that many students need an advocate — someone who will stand up for them and be their ally when life gets rough.

Why work at PTECH?

I chose to work at PTECH because I see this as an opportunity to work in an innovative, non-traditional educational environment, one that is on the cutting edge of education.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

My family keeps me busy, but I am active in the Johnstown Elementary PTA, as well as the Johnstown Board of Education. I’m a lifelong resident of Johnstown, except for my college years. I live with my husband, Bill, and three sons, Liam, Carter and Finn.
