What is your role at PTECH?

I am the college liaison for our junior and senior PTECH students on the SUNY Cobleskill campus.

Tell us a little about your background.

I grew up just 50 miles north of New York City in Putnam County, New York. I attended SUNY Cortland, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Human Development with minors in Psychology and Geology. I continued my education at The College of Saint Rose, where I completed my master’s degree in School Counseling. While attending school, I worked as a substitute teacher and as a mentor for children in foster care and individuals with disabilities.

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I always knew I would end up working in a profession that involves helping others. Having helped raise and advocate for my younger brother with Down Syndrome and autism, I am naturally empathetic, caring, and nonjudgmental. Becoming a school counselor has been such a rewarding experience. It is not just a job to me, it is a purpose.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

Some of my hobbies include fishing, hiking, karaoke and pick-up sports. Having grown up going to Shea Stadium, I am an avid Mets fan (no matter how much they continuously disappoint me). I also love spending time with my daughter, Sunny, on my days off.

If you were able to talk to your 15-year-old self about life, careers and happiness, what advice would you give?

I would tell myself to enjoy the journey no matter how difficult or stressful it gets because life is too short. I would also tell myself to be confident, grateful, and take advantage of every opportunity.
