Advocacy – Can refer to Research Institute for Public Libraries and Public Library Association for combined data and story pieces. Think in terms of a “Hero’s Journey.”  This is a story where an average person has a challenge.  You have to determine how the hero overcame the challenge and then attach the specifics that are available at your site.

Advocacy (Edie Willcox)

This year’s enacted budget contains the first system aid increase since 2016.  Governor Cuomo proposed a $4M cut in Library Aid in this year’s Executive Budget.  The FY2018-19 enacted budget reversed this proposed cut, and allocated an additional $1M.

Members wrote thank you notes to Governor Cuomo for passing this aid in the budget.

Thank you notes were also written to the legislators for fighting on behalf of the library community.

Continuing Education (Deb Booth)

The flyer will be coming out soon for the May 31st Workshop Day.  It is “Makerspace” focused.

We are looking towards the fall for another workshop.  Everyone was asked what they would like for topics.

Suggestions received were:
Library Design – Presentation by CDLC or the Albany State Ed facility.
Small Grants – how to write and obtain them.
