HFM BOCES fifth grader wins first place at Boulevard Science Fair

MAR. 22, 2016 – If you don’t know the difference between an atom and an element, you can ask HFM fifth grader Thomas Orlando. Thomas won first prize for individual display at the Boulevard Science Fair on Wednesday, March 16.

Thomas, a fifth grader in Eric Gilston’s class at Boulevard Elementary School in Gloversville, presented a display called “Molecule Mania” that explained basic facts about atoms, elements, molecules and the periodic table.

Thomas’ display encouraged visitors to match molecule models with their chemical formulas. More than 25 displays competed in the fair, with first, second and third prizes being awarded to both team and individual displays.
