Schools closed through May 15, At-home learning to continue

April 17, 2020 | Filed in Archive

On Thurday, April 16, Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order extending the statewide school closures through Friday, May 15. (Please note, on May 1, statewide school closures were extended to the end of the school year.)

During the extended closures, schools are required to provide alternative instructional options (at-home learning), distribution and availability of meals, and child care, with an emphasis on serving children of essential workers. Schools must also continue to first use any vacation or snow days remaining.

The governor’s order said the state will re-evaluate the order before students return to schools. If the order is not extended, students would return to schools Monday, May 18.

Local school districts in the HFM region are working to provide resources for families during the closure. Families that have not already done so, are encouraged to contact their home district concerning the availability of take-home meals, childcare resources for families of essential workers and at-home learning resources.

At-home learning resources for students enrolled in BOCES programs are located on the HFM At-Home Learning Resources web page. BOCES instructors are also in touch with students directly.
