State Police Investigator Wayne Matice Jr. interviews a group of HFM PTECH sophomores in front of a mock grand jury regarding a fake homicide the students investigated.

NOV. 19, 2015 – HFM PTECH students wrapped up a project today that had them in the past few weeks photographing a bloody crime scene (fake, of course), lifting fingerprints to send to the forensics lab, analyzing DNA test and autopsy results, interviewing school personnel they deemed as “suspects” in the homicide and finally presenting their evidence to a grand jury.

The cross-curricular CSI Project brought together subjects like trigonometry (calculating the angles of the blood spatter), ELA (writing and framing questions for interviewees) and science (body systems, DNA and more).

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation partnered with PTECH to carry out the project, teaching the students how to gather evidence and analyze crime scenes.
