HFM bus driver suspended after verbal altercation with student

October 7, 2016 | Filed in HFM Top Stories

An incident Tuesday involving a student and bus driver on an HFM BOCES Regional Transportation bus has prompted school officials to place the driver on administrative leave until a full investigation can be completed.

A disruption occurred on an October 4 morning bus run to Schenectady, creating a significant safety concern for passengers on the bus. The driver pulled off the road on multiple occasions while aides attempted to address the situation. On the final occasion, aides enlisted the driver’s help, and he spoke harshly to a student. A safe environment was restored on the bus and it continued on the remainder of its run.

The driver and aides reported the incident immediately to their supervisor, who called the police to help address the student disruption.

“The safety and security of all our students and our staff are paramount. After reviewing the onboard camera, I have put the driver on administrative leave until a full investigation into this matter has been conducted. Based upon the results of this investigation, the BOCES will take all appropriate steps to ensure the continued safety of our students and staff in the future,” Dr. Michel said.
