February dates announced for orientation and screening
HFM BOCES Adult Services will host an orientation and screening session to enroll English language learners into English Language/Civics classes.
Instruction will focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Civics education, including U.S. history, government, citizenship, geography, holidays, and culture will be integrated into the program.
Orientation and screening will be held from noon-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Amsterdam Literacy Zone, located at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Students must arrive on time and be prepared to stay for 3 hours.
During orientation, students will learn about the program, register for class and participate in an assessment of their listening and speaking skills.
Students must bring something to write with and a picture ID with birth date.
Classes are available to adult learners age 18 and older, and are offered at no cost to the student through funding for adult learners from the New York State Education Department.
Individuals interested in joining class must attend an orientation event. To reserve a seat please call (518) 736-4340. Voicemail is available 24 hours a day. Callers should leave their name, age, mailing address and phone number. They also need to specify which session they will attend.
