Career exploration days set at Literacy Zones

Entry level health care jobs the focus of events

Literacy Zone logoHFM BOCES’ Amsterdam and Gloversville Literacy Zones will host career exploration events in December to call attention to entry-level health care job opportunities available in the region. The events are free and open to the public.

Amsterdam Literacy Zone will host its events from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12 at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Street. An evening session will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to arrive in the first 15 minutes of the events to hear guest presenters from Home Helpers Direct Link, Home Health Care Partners, the Health Profession Opportunity Grants through Schenectady Community Action Program, and the FMS Workforce Solutions Center.

Gloversville events will be held from 10 a.m. – noon on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Gloversville Literacy Zone, 43-47 North Main Street. An evening session will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to arrive in the first 15 minutes of the events to hear guest presenters from Home Helpers Direct Link, Community Health Center, the Health Profession Opportunity Grants through Schenectady Community Action Program, and the FMS Workforce Solutions Center.

Attendees will learn about the types of entry-level health care jobs available as well as about training opportunities that allow for job advancement. The last hour of each session will allow job seekers to talk with presenters directly. Job seekers are encouraged to bring a resume and be ready for an informal interview.
