Our Mission

Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES strives to enhance education through leadership, services and programs, enabling individuals, school districts and the community to achieve their standards of excellence.

What is a BOCES?

BOCES are educational institutions created by New York State to help public schools provide services. BOCES stands for Board of Cooperative Educational Services, which operate as an extension of local school districts and the State Education Department. New York State is divided into 37 BOCES regions. Although each BOCES is tailored to meet specific
local educational needs, all of them are based on cooperation, coordination, interdependence and shared decision making as they provide services to school districts.

HFM BOCES Annual Report Card

Education law requires all New York BOCES to prepare an annual report card that chronicles the performance of their various programs and services to students.

As a critical component of the educational system in New York State, HFM BOCES participates in the public reporting required of all public schools in the state. [more]

Monday, Dec. 6, 2010

It is my pleasure to announce the anticipated appointment of Dr. Patrick Michel as District Superintendent of the HFM BOCES. As you know, Dr. Michel is currently the superintendent of the Monticello Central School District in Sullivan County. The Board will vote on the appointment at a special meeting to be held on Thursday, December 16th and Dr. Michel would begin his duties on February 7, 2011.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank all of those who participated in the search process. Your time and efforts are much appreciated.

The last eight months have been painful to us personally and challenging to our organization. We will continue to struggle with the loss we have all shared together. Our work is too important, and the current environment too demanding, to allow ourselves not to move aggressively forward. The conclusion of the district superintendent search process is an important step in that movement.

After the holidays we will have more information about Dr. Michel’s introduction to our BOCES. I know that everyone will extend him a warm HFM welcome.

Robert Townsend

HFM BOCES Board of Education President
