Dr. Lorraine
Hohenforst named Deputy Superintendent
Administrative oversight and added accountability trigger
promotion
JUNE
29, 2012 - HFM BOCES Board of Education named Dr. Lorraine
Hohenforst Deputy Superintendent at its regular board meeting
Wednesday, June 27. The board eliminated the assistant
superintendent title. The move reflects shifting
responsibilities as new requirements are added to the
superintendent’s role.
“As the Regents and
State Education Department reform education, the
responsibilities for district superintendents evolve. Often that
means more time in Albany and away from HFM BOCES,” District
Superintendent Dr. Patrick Michel said. “It is important for the
administrative oversight of HFM to always remain in capable
hands.”
In the transition
period before Dr. Michel was hired, Herkimer BOCES District
Superintendent Mark Vivacqua served as Interim Superintendent,
while Dr. Hohenforst assumed responsibility for the day-to-day
operation of HFM BOCES, and according to Dr. Michel and the
Board of Education provided the
capable leadership required.
“From an official,
procedural point of view, certain decisions or actions on behalf
of BOCES can be made only by the superintendent. Appointing a
deputy provides HFM with full administrative oversight and
authority when I am not in the building,” Dr. Patrick Michel
said.
At the same meeting,
the board also
approved administrative internships for staff members who are
pursuing certification in educational administration.
Internships provide hands-on administrative training and are a
requirement for certification for school administrator roles in
New York State. |
