In some ways it’s sad that being respectful has to become the object of a law. Respect for each another ought to be the norm, a given, the built-in “way we roll.” However, to read the news, look at statistics, simply look around our own community, I can understand why the Dignity for All Students Act had to be enacted. Dignity Act requires active approach to combat discrimination, harassment and bullying

Students returned to school last week protected by a new law that seeks to encourage a extra level of respect and tolerance in public school classrooms across New York State.

The Dignity For All Students Act amends education law regarding character education taught in schools, and seeks to create an unfriendly environment for those who bully or harass others.  [MORE]
