HFM BOCES ready
to launch 2011-12 school year
Leadership determined to turn challenges into opportunities
August, 2011 - The
final details of summer maintenance projects are being
completed, teachers are filtering in to prepare their classrooms
for September, and HFM BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Patrick
Michel is looking ahead to the challenge and excitement of his
first full school year at HFM BOCES.
New leadership in the State Education Department, the property
tax cap law, Race to the Top regulations, new teacher and
principal performance review standards, common core curriculum,
and state and national economic concerns all create an
environment of significant change for area schools.
“We are facing deep and unprecedented change this year in the
way we serve our students and how we are evaluated. With all the
issues around us, it is easy to be deflected,” Dr. Michel said
in a letter to the staff about Opening Day activities. “We must
remain a student-centered community, focused on the children we
serve.”
Dr. Michel pointed out that changes at the state and federal
level would redefine how BOCES and its component school
districts conduct the business of educating area students.
“It’s our intent not to allow events to dictate our destiny, but
to be fully involved in the change process for the benefit of
the students we serve and our BOCES,” Dr. Michel told the staff.
“We look forward to exciting opportunities in the new school
year.
