UAlbany invites area schools to
NanoCareer Day
HFM BOCES encourages students to learn about 21st Century
math and science careers
SEPT.
23, 2011 - NanoCareer Day—designed
to stimulate interest and enthusiasm among middle and high
school students in the fields of math, science and technology—will
take place Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the University at Albany's
College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE).
Participating school groups will hear a brief presentation
followed by an interactive tour of Albany NanoTech's
unparalleled facilities, guided by members of CNSE's world-class
faculty. The tour will include hands-on activities for students,
allowing them to sample and learn about various topics related
to nanotechnology.
HFM BOCES Curriculum Specialist Mark Tanner encourages schools
and students to participate in events of this kind. "Programs of
this nature encourage science awareness among students and
educate them about the exciting career opportunities of the 21st
century."
There is no cost to attend NanoCareer Day, and each school may
bring a maximum of 30 students. UAlbany will register schools on
a first-come, first-serve basis, and encourages schools to
reserve their spot as soon as possible.
To register a group of students for this program, please review
the list of school time frame options and complete the
registration form (Download
pdf of both forms) with your three preferred time
frames. Return the form to Diana Martin-Dumesnil via email at
dmartin@uamail.albany.edu. Once registered, your school will
receive a confirmation email with further information, driving
directions and parking information.
HFM BOCES launched its own engineering technology program this
year that begins high school juniors and seniors on an
engineering technician career pathway. The grant-funded program
is a collaborative effort between HFM BOCES and Fulton
Montgomery Community College's Center of Engineering and
Technology.
BOCES students can earn up to 15 college credits as they
complete their two-year high school program, then move on to one
of FMCC's associate degree programs.
