Gloversville
Board of Education announces superintendent finalists
GLOVERSVILLE,
NY (Dec. 20, 2011) –The Gloversville Enlarged School District
Board of Education has announced three finalists in its search
for a new superintendent of schools. The superintendent
candidates are in the final stage of the interview process
before the BOE makes its decision.
The new Gloversville
superintendent will assume his responsibilities on or about
March 1, 2012.
Steven Schloicka has
been the business manager for the Gloversville Enlarged School
District since 2007. He was previously a partner in the
accounting firm of Leavenworth & Co. of Fonda, and served as an
Associate Examiner of Municipal Affairs in the New York State
Comptroller’s Office.
Mr. Schloicka holds
Bachelors and Masters degrees in accounting from the State
University of New York and is currently completing his Masters
in Educational Administration and Leadership at SUNY New Paltz.
His School District Leader certification and Certificate of
Advanced Study are pending completion of the educational program
at SUNY in 2012.
Dr. Kenneth W.
Newman, Sr. is the assistant superintendent for student learning
in the Monticello Central School District. He is the former
principal of William S. Hackett Middle School in Albany, and
served as an assistant principal in the City School District of
Schenectady.
Mr. Newman taught
business education in Schenectady’s public schools and at Hudson
Correctional Facility prior to earning his school district
administrator certification. He holds a Bachelor of Science
degree from Siena College and a Master’s in Education from
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA. Dr.
Newman earned his doctorate in educational leadership from NOVA
Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL in May 2011.
Gary Furman is the
assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the
Ellenville Central School District. He served as the K-12
director of mathematics, science, technology and compensatory
education in the Monticello Central School District for eight
years, collaborating with teachers and administrators to improve
student success on New York State assessments.
Mr. Furman has also
served as a mathematics instructor and administrator in
Fonda-Fultonville Central and Mohonasen Central School
Districts, as well as an administrative internship as assistant
summer school principal in Gloversville.
Mr. Furman holds
School District Administrator (SDA) and School
Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) certifications. He received his
Bachelors degree from Alfred University and a Masters degree in
Educational Psychology from the College of St. Rose in Albany.
He is completing his doctorate in educational leadership through
Sage Colleges in Albany.
