Orientation and screenings set for adults
preparing to
take GED exam
HFM BOCES Adult Literacy services will host four orientation and screening sessions
in September for
adults ages 21 and older who want to prepare for the General
Educational Development exam.
Learners ages 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with
the teacher and as space and funding is available.
A two-part morning orientation and screening will be held from
9:00 am to noon on Monday, Sept. 12 and Wednesday, Sept. 14 at
Riverfront Center, Montgomery County Literacy Project, Amsterdam
NY. (1300A Riverfront Center, Lower Level, east end of building)
Students may also choose to attend evening orientation and
screening sessions from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the same two days at the
same place.
A screening and orientation session will also be held at HFM
BOCES Alternative High School on Monday, September 12 and
Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
An additional screening and orientation will be held at
Gloversville Public Library, 58 East Fulton Street, from
9:00 am to noon on Tuesday, September 13 and Thursday, September
14.
Students must attend both days of the sessions, arrive on time and be prepared
to stay for the full three (3) hours each day.
During orientation, students will learn about the program,
register for class and participate in assessment. Students must
bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with
birth date. A minimum of a sixth grade skill level in reading
and math is required to participate in the class. Levels will be
determined through the assessment provided.
Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES
at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Callers should leave their name,
age, address, phone number and specify morning or evening
screening with session location. Voice mail is available 24
hours a day.
