Orientation and screenings set for adults preparing to take GED exam

HFM BOCES Adult Literacy services will host four orientation and screening sessions in September for adults ages 21 and older who want to prepare for the General Educational Development exam.

Learners ages 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with the teacher and as space and funding is available.

A two-part morning orientation and screening will be held from 9:00 am to noon on Monday, Sept. 12 and Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Riverfront Center, Montgomery County Literacy Project, Amsterdam NY. (1300A Riverfront Center, Lower Level, east end of building)

Students may also choose to attend evening orientation and screening sessions from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the same two days at the same place.

A screening and orientation session will also be held at HFM BOCES Alternative High School on Monday, September 12 and Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

An additional screening and orientation will be held at Gloversville Public Library, 58 East Fulton Street,  from 9:00 am to noon on Tuesday, September 13 and Thursday, September 14.

Students must attend both days of the sessions, arrive on time and be prepared to stay for the full three (3) hours each day.

During orientation, students will learn about the program, register for class and participate in assessment. Students must bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with birth date. A minimum of a sixth grade skill level in reading and math is required to participate in the class. Levels will be determined through the assessment provided.

Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Callers should leave their name, age, address, phone number and specify morning or evening screening with session location. Voice mail is available 24 hours a day.
