October orientation
and screenings set for adults preparing for GED exam
HFM BOCES Adult Literacy services will host three orientation and screening sessions
in October for
adults ages 21 and older who want to prepare for the General
Educational Development exam.
Learners ages 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with
the teacher and as space and funding is available.
A two-part screening and orientation will be held from 6 - 9
p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17 and Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 at HFM
BOCES Conference Center.
A second screening and orientation opportunity will be held from
9:00 am to noon on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011
at Fulton Montgomery Community College Satellite Office, located
at 1910 Riverfront Center (Lower Level, East End of Building) in
Amsterdam.
Another two-part screening and orientation will be held from 6 -
9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and the following Tuesday, Oct. 25,
at Amsterdam Literacy Zone, co-located with Montgomery County
Literacy Project (1300A Riverfront Center, Lower Level, East End
of Building, Amsterdam.
Students must attend both days of the sessions, arrive on time and be prepared
to stay for the full three (3) hours each day.
During orientation, students will learn about the program,
register for class and participate in assessment. Students must
bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with
birth date. A minimum of a sixth grade skill level in reading
and math is required to participate in the class. Levels will be
determined through the assessment provided.
Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES
at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Callers should leave their name,
age, address, phone number and specify the GED
screening location they wish to attend. Voice mail is available 24
hours a day.
