and screenings offered in June
MAY 30, 2012
Gloversville and Amsterdam Literacy Zones will host orientation and screening sessions
in June for
adults ages 21 and older who want to prepare for the General
Educational Development® exam.
Learners ages 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with
the teacher and as space and funding is available. The
sessions are offered by HFM BOCES Adult Literacy Services.
A two-part screening and orientation will be held from 9 a.m. -
noon on Monday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at both
locations. A two-part evening session will be held on the same
dates from 6 - 9 p.m.
The Amsterdam Literacy Zone is co-located with Montgomery County
Literacy Project at 1300A Riverfront Center, (lower level, east
end of building).
The Gloversville Literacy Zone is located at 43-47 N. Main St.
(Glove City Commons Building).
Students must attend both days of the sessions, arrive on time and be prepared
to stay for the full three (3) hours each day.
During orientation, students will learn about the program,
register for class and participate in assessment. Students must
bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with
birth date. A minimum of a sixth grade skill level in reading
and math is required to participate in the class. Levels will be
determined through the assessment provided.
Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES
at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Callers should leave their name,
age, address, and phone number. Voice mail is available 24
