January 2012 offers adult GED® prep classes

Orientation and screenings set for Amsterdam and Gloversville

HFM BOCES Adult Literacy services will host four orientation and screening sessions in January for adults ages 21 and older who want to prepare for the General Educational Development exam.

Learners ages 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with the teacher and as space and funding is available.

Two screening and orientations will be held at Amsterdam Literacy Zone, co-located with Montgomery County Literacy Project. (1300A Riverfront Center, Lower Level, East End of Building, Amsterdam NY)

The morning session will be held from 9:00 am to noon on Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. The evening session will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.

Two screening and orientations will be held at Gloversville Literacy Zone, 43-47 North Main Street, Gloversville NY. The morning session will be held from 9:00 am to noon on Thursday, Jan. 5 and Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. The evening session will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.

Students must attend both days of the sessions, arrive on time and be prepared to stay for the full three (3) hours each day.

During orientation, students will learn about the program, register for class and participate in assessment. Students must bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with birth date. A minimum of a sixth grade skill level in reading and math is required to participate in the class. Levels will be determined through the assessment provided.

Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Callers should leave their name, age, address, phone number and specify morning or evening screening with session location. Voice mail is available 24 hours a day.

Join us on Facebook at HFM Adult Literacy & Corrections Education, the Amsterdam Literacy Zone, and now the Gloversville Literacy Zone.
