Orientation and screenings set for Amsterdam and
Gloversville
HFM BOCES Adult Literacy services will host four orientation and screening sessions
in January for
adults ages 21 and older who want to prepare for the General
Educational Development exam.
Learners ages 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with
the teacher and as space and funding is available.
Two screening and orientations will be held at Amsterdam
Literacy Zone, co-located with Montgomery County Literacy
Project. (1300A Riverfront Center, Lower Level, East End of
Building, Amsterdam NY)
The morning session will be held from 9:00 am to noon on
Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. The evening session
will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Monday,
Jan. 9, 2012.
Two screening and orientations will be held at Gloversville
Literacy Zone, 43-47 North Main Street, Gloversville NY. The
morning session will be held from 9:00 am to noon on Thursday,
Jan. 5 and Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. The evening session will be
held from 6 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Monday, Jan. 9,
2012.
Students must attend both days of the sessions, arrive on time and be prepared
to stay for the full three (3) hours each day.
During orientation, students will learn about the program,
register for class and participate in assessment. Students must
bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with
birth date. A minimum of a sixth grade skill level in reading
and math is required to participate in the class. Levels will be
determined through the assessment provided.
Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES
at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Callers should leave their name,
age, address, phone number and specify morning or evening
screening with session location. Voice mail is available 24
hours a day.
