Regional
Economic Development Council meets Friday
SEPT.
14, 2011 - Mohawk Valley Regional Economic
Development Council will meet from 8:30 - 11:30 am. on
Friday, Sept. 16 at HFM BOCES Conference Center. The meeting
is open to public observation.
The council is one of 10 regional councils established by
Governor Andrew Cuomo to help stimulate job creation in
every part of New York State.
According to HFM BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Patrick
Michel, HFM BOCES and Fulton-Montgomery Community College
were selected as the site for the meeting to illustrate
their importance to the economic vitality of the Mohawk
Valley region.
Governor Cuomo said in his Jan. 2011 State of the State
address that “business built New York, and we are declaring
that New York is once again open for business.” To back that
claim, he created the regional economic development
councils, noting that those "working at the local level know
their area economies best."
In July 2011, the governor announced that $1 billion in
economic development funding was available through a new
consolidated funding application, making projects eligible
for grant money and tax credits from dozens of existing
state programs.
The regional economic development councils—drawn from the
private sector, local governments, state agencies and
academic institutions—will work with state agencies to
allocate resources for the creation of jobs. Lt. Governor
Robert Duffy leads the regional council initiative, and will
be the keynote speaker at Friday's meeting. |
