College Fair showcases
opportunities for CTC students
Ask questions, be informed before making the big decision
Students
in HFM BOCES Career & Technical programs will have a chance to
"visit" 20 different colleges in one day when the CTC College
Fair takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011.
Representatives from several area two and four-year colleges,
along with financial aid experts, will set up displays and
literature to help students learn about the various options
available after high school.
The day has been designated College Spirit Day and everyone is
encouraged to wear their favorite college colors.
Information about individual colleges and the college search
process is important for students, helping them choose the
pathway after high school that best suits their skills and
personality.
CTC teachers will be speaking with their students about the fair
in the days leading up to the event, and helping them prepare to
make wise decisions regarding post secondary education.
Additional help for students is always available through the CTC
guidance office.
Financial aid is a major area of interest for most families, and
a representative from Fulton-Montgomery Community college will
be on hand to answer questions and provide information about
paying for college.
The institutions represented at the college fair include:
Adirondack Community College
Alfred State College
Bryant and Stratton College
Clinton Community College
Fulton Montgomery Community College
SUNY Cobleskill
SUNY Delhi
Herkimer County Community College
Hudson Valley Community College
ITT Technical Institute
Johnson and Wales University
Mohawk Valley Community College
Morrisville State College
New England Culinary Institute
North County Community College
Paul Smith’s College
Pennsylvania College of Technology
Sage Colleges
Schenectady County Community College
Tompkins Cortland Community College
Asking questions is the best, first step to getting to know more
about a potential college choice.
•
What are the admission requirements?
•
What type of housing is available?
•
How much will it cost?
•
What financial aid options are offered?
•
What’s it like on campus on the weekends?
• What are recent graduates doing now?
This
checklist (pdf) will help students
know what kind of questions to ask.
Once a student determines that a college sounds like it may be a
good fit, most admissions representatives encourage prospective
students to visit the campus. Many schools offer open house
events but welcome visitors at any time. The close proximity of
the colleges attending the fair makes a campus visit practical
and recommended.
