HFM BOCES welcomes students back to class
First day of school brings excitement and uncertainty
The
first day of school is often a mixture of anticipation
and anxiety, regardless of the grade level. There are
smiles, some anxious looks, and a couple of frowns as
juniors from 15 component schools walked through the
doors for their first taste of the HFM BOCES Career and
Technical Education program they have chosen.
The approximately 550 students enrolled in Career and
Tech programs is the largest number ever. The Medical
Assisting program has seen the largest growth, leaping
from eight students last year to 30 in 2010-11.
The morning session of Career and Tech classes is
primarily made up of juniors beginning a two-year
program in one of 16 program options. The afternoon
session welcomes seniors back to complete the second
half of their BOCES program.
The new students were met in the main lobby by guidance
counselors and teachers that directed them to their
classrooms. The unfamiliar territory will soon be
routine as students become familiar with their
surroundings and schedule.
