Office of Adult Literacy offers English as a Second Language class

Morning and evening orientation/screening sessions set for March 2

HFM BOCES Office of Adult Literacy and Corrections Education will host two orientation and screening sessions for adults who want to speak, read, write and understand English better. A morning screening and orientation will be held 9 a.m. - noon on Wednesday, March 2, at Centro Civico, 143-145 East Main Street, Amsterdam. An evening screening and orientation will be held 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Students must arrive on time and be prepared to stay for the full three hours. The class is open to adults, age 21 and older. Learners age 18-20 may be admitted based on an interview with the teacher and as space and funding is available.

During orientation, students will learn about the program, register for class and participate in assessment. Students must bring a pen and pencil and a photocopy of a picture ID with birth date.

Individuals interested in joining the class must call HFM BOCES at 736-4340 to reserve a seat. Voice mail is available 24 hours a day. Callers should leave their name, age, address, phone number and specify the morning or evening ESL orientation.
