Career
& Tech Center now on Facebook
A new Facebook page was launched on
Wednesday, Dec. 1, as part of HFM BOCES' ongoing efforts to
promote its programs.
"While visiting area high schools to acquaint
students with our programs, we began surveying them about
Facebook and other social media," HFM Guidance Counselor Charis
Kakavelos said.
The results of the survey revealed that while
nearly all students were regular Facebook participants, most had
never visited the HFM BOCES website, and many were unaware that
it even existed.
"We realized that the best way to reach
current and prospective students, alumni and parents, is to
engage with them where they are," Mrs. Kakavelos said. "In less
than two days we have connected with more than 100 people."
The new Facebook page presents the programs
and events at HFM BOCES in an informative yet informal way,
perfect for this emerging avenue of interaction. On Facebook,
search for HFM BOCES Career and Technical Center.
"Helping students make career choices is what
the Career and Technical Center is all about. Whether students
graduate from high school and go to college or directly to work,
they benefit from exploring different careers and learning
marketable skills.
The Center also helps students understand how
academic skills in science, math and language arts are
integrated into our technical program.
We offer 16 career training courses for
high-school age students from our 15 component school
districts." - from the HFM BOCES Career & Tech Center
