HFM BOCES
offers summer basic skills classes and GED preparation
Evening and daytime orientation screenings scheduled
HFM BOCES will offer orientation and screening sessions for
adults, age 21 and older, who want to improve their basic
skills and prepare for the GED exam. A few openings will be
available for individuals 18-20.
Individuals who are able to attend evening classes should
attend the two-day session scheduled for Monday, June 14 and
Wednesday, June 16 from 6-9 pm in the Montgomery County
Literacy Project classroom located on the first floor of the
Riverfront Mall. Students may park in the New York Oncology
Hematology parking lot located in the rear entrance of the
mall.
A minimum of a Grade 6 skill level in reading and math is
required to participate in this class session. Grade skill
level will be determined through assessment in the
orientation. Classes will meet Monday and Wednesday evenings
beginning Monday, July 5 and ending August 11.
Two orientation and screening sessions have been scheduled
for students who can attend in the morning. The first
two-day session will be held at Montgomery County Literacy
Project on Wednesday and Thursday, June 16-17 from 9 a.m.-
noon.
The second session will be held Monday and Tuesday, June
21-22 at Fulton Montgomery Community College in room C136 of
the Classroom Building from 9 a.m.- noon. Students who
attend these screening sessions will be assigned to a class
location based on their reading and math assessments.
Students who demonstrate reading and math skills at Grade 9
level or higher will be assigned to the Fast Track GED
class. This class will meet at the Montgomery County
Literacy Project Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 - noon
beginning July 5 and ending August 11.
Students who demonstrate either a reading or math score
between the 4th and 8th grade skill levels will be assigned
to the Pre-GED class that will meet at Fulton Montgomery
Community College in the Classroom Building C136 from 9 AM-
noon on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, beginning July 6 and
ending August 12.
During orientation, students will learn about the program,
register for class and participate in assessment. It is
important that students arrive on time and attend both days
of the orientation. Students must bring a pen and pencil and
a photocopy of a photo ID with a birth date.

24-hours a day. Callers should leave their name, age,
address, phone number and specify the GED orientation they
wish to attend.
