HFM BOCES
offers two dates for GED Exams in June
Examinations in the conference center at the HFM
BOCES campus.
HFM BOCES will offer two opportunities for adult learners to
take the GED exam in June. The first chance to take the
five-part test battery will be on Friday-Saturday, June 12-13 on
the HFM campus. Test takers must report to the conference center
no later than 4:15 p.m. Friday, and again Saturday at 8:15 a.m.
A second session of tests will be given on Tuesday-Wednesday,
June 16-17. Test takers must report to the test center no later
than 8:45 a.m. each day. Late arrivals will not be admitted.
All candidates must pre-register and meet eligibility criteria.
Walk-ins will not be accepted.
Applications, additional information, eligibility requirements,
and necessary documents can be accessed on the New York State
Education Department's GED Web site:
www.emsc.nysed.gov/ged.
The GED test assesses a learner's competence in the five core
subjects studied in high school: reading, writing, social
studies, science, and mathematics. Candidates are tested on
their ability to read and process information, solve problems,
and communicate effectively. The exams are created by the GED
Testing Service of the American Council on Education.
Test takers who have participated in a preparation program
should request a testing code from the program.
Individuals who have not participated in a program can determine
test readiness by taking a GED practice test. Practice tests may
be accessed on the Internet or in GED preparation books.
Students who have a referral form from a preparation program or
who can demonstrate readiness through documented practice test
scores will receive priority seating. This screening process
increases the likelihood that individuals who are test ready are
able to participate in the exam. This screening also allows test
takers to determine if they are prepared for the exam or if they
need additional preparation.
Candidates who pass a GED test receive a high school equivalency
diploma that is often regarded as equivalent to a high school
diploma. Most employers in private industry and government, as
well as admissions offices in colleges and universities accept
the GED certificate or diploma as they would a traditional high
school diploma.
When candidates pass the GED Tests, the NYS Education Department
issues a high school equivalency diploma. NYSED is the only
entity approved to issue these documents in New York State.
Individuals are warned to be cautious about offers made from
other entities.
Applications, additional documentation and documented practice
test scores should be delivered to HFM BOCES GED Testing Center, 2755
State Highway 67, Johnstown, NY 12095. All materials must be
received no later than June 11.
