Karen
Fagan begins new role as
HFM BOCES chief financial officer
Linda Edwards retires after 8 years with HFM
HFM BOCES’ new chief financial officer is no stranger to the
inner workings of the organization.
Karen Fagan, who was named treasurer of HFM in 1995, began her
career here in 1993 handling purchasing and accounts payable.
On
Dec. 1, Ms. Fagan became chief financial officer, replacing
Associate Superintendent Linda Edwards who retired on Nov. 30.
“We are extremely pleased that Ms. Fagan has agreed to take on
the responsibilities of chief financial officer,” said District
Superintendent Geoffrey H. Davis. “She has an intimate
understanding of our fiscal systems and is well poised to direct
our budgeting process as we look ahead to the 2008-09 school
year, and beyond.”
Ms. Fagan holds a master’s degree in business and policy
studies, and a bachelor’s degree in business, management and
economics with a concentration in managerial accounting. She
graduated as salutatorian from Johnstown High School.
During her years as treasurer, Ms. Fagan developed a
comprehensive knowledge of HFM’s budgetary components, revenue
sources, general ledger accounts, fund profiles and accounting
transactions, as well as extensive experience analyzing and
managing financial data. She also assisted the associate
superintendent with supervision and coordination of financial
and business operations, monitored the revenues and expenditures
of HFM’s annual $30 million budget, and offered training and
support to business office staff in the daily operation of
purchasing, accounts payable, payroll and grants.
“I am looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead,”
said Ms. Fagan, who will continue to handle her previous
responsibilities as treasurer during the hiring process for that
position. “I have learned a great deal from Linda through our
years of working together, and I know she and her husband, Bob,
will be enjoying a lot more time together now that she has
retired.”
