School
Library System’s Best Practices Fair shines
spotlight on innovative programs
The HFM BOCES School Library System 3rd annual
Administrator’s Breakfast and Best Practices Fair
provided a showcase for innovative teaching units
developed by local media specialists.
The event brought together administrators and media
specialists from 26 member schools, allowing them to
explore the value of well-designed library programs.
Organized by the HFM School Library System, the day was
designed to further develop open communications and
collaboration between administrators, media specialists
and other community groups sharing the same goal of
improving services to our students by working more
closely together. For the first time, networking
partners included Fulton-Montgomery Community College,
Gloversville Public Library, Mysteries on Main Street
bookstore and the New York State Consumer Protection
Board.
The program kicked off with a breakfast prepared by
students in the Culinary Arts Program of the HFM BOCES
Career and Technical Center. Dr. Harry Brooks,
Northville Central School’s interim superintendent, was
they keynote speaker. He addressed the proven connection
between good library programming and higher student
achievement.
The Best Practices Fair included 22 participants who
offered table displays and demonstrations of some of the
most successful teaching units that have been developed
by school library media specialists in the area. These
units spanned all curriculum areas and grade levels, and
also included supporting activities and materials
available from FMCC, Gloversville Public Library,
Mysteries on Main Street and through New York State.
