BOCES superintendent receives national 'Cooperative Leadership'
award
HFM BOCES Superintendent Dr. Geoffrey H. Davis was one of two
local educational administrators to receive a national 2007
Cooperative Leadership award from the Capital Area School
Development Association during the organization’s Annual Awards
Dinner on April 19 at the Century House in Latham.
Given on behalf of the National School Development Council, the
Cooperative Leadership Award is designed to recognize
outstanding leadership within the study councils of the United
States, including demonstrated success in improving student
learning and performance through sound decision making.
Dr. Davis is a career educator with experience as a science
teacher, assistant high school principal, elementary principal,
junior and senior high school principal, and eight years service
as a small city superintendent of schools before being appointed
district superintendent of HFM BOCES in 1996.
Dr. Davis served as the chair of the New York State District
Superintendents and chaired the “Snapshot of the Superintendency”
research series for the New York State Council of School
Superintendents, earning the Council’s “Appreciation Award” in
2002. Dr. Davis has been involved in matters of school policy
and organization at the state and local levels, and often speaks
on issues of school leadership.
Also receiving the 2007 Cooperative Leadership award was Dr.
Raymond O’Connell, who recently retired as director of
leadership research and development and as an adjunct associate
professor in the Department of Educational Administration &
Policy Studies at UAlbany. He joined the department after 25
years of experience in K-12 public education. Dr. O’Connell has
served in both urban and suburban settings as a science teacher,
elementary and junior high school principal, assistant
superintendent, and superintendent of schools. Recently, he held
the position of administrator for organizational performance
with Questar III Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
