HFM student
wins spelling bee two years in a row
Jean
Sweet, a sixth-grader at Warren Street Elementary School in
Johnstown, won his second consecutive school-wide spelling
bee championship in February. Jean is a special education
student in Eric Gilston's 8:1:1 class at Warren Street. He
now advances to the regional championship, as he did following last year's win when he
was a fifth-grader in Mr. Gilston's classroom.
Jean edged out all the competition in this year's
single-elimination spelling bee at Warren Street Elementary.
Jean correctly spelled "appealed" after his last remaining
opponent erred. He then won the competition when he
correctly spelled "apricot." His success brought a rousing
ovation from those in attendance, who included members of
Jean's family and several of his classmates. |
