Friends and family gather for tribute
Helena
Kilgore caps off 33 years at
HFM BOCES with farewell party
After
more than three decades working for HFM BOCES, Helena Kilgore
pretty much knows everyone who has ever worked here.
Through all her years of service, Helena made sure that everyone
received their paychecks on time and for the correct amount. And
she made those paychecks more personal with little messages she
included on each pay stub -- from personalized birthday
greetings to pithy quotes designed to inspire or amuse.
About
100 current and former colleagues turned out for a career
celebration in her honor on May 21.
The
formal program began with a tribute by HFM BOCES Superintendent
Dr. Geoffrey H. Davis, who remarked how much times had changed
since Helena began her tenure at HFM on Sept. 1, 1974.
As the organization grew,
so did her responsibilities, he said, noting that the payroll
grew from just a handful of people to hundreds of employees in
the intervening years.
"Back then, I had long hair and was riding a motorcycle," he
told those in attendance. "Helena said she was too, only she sat
on the back."
Also
formally congratulating Helena during the program was HFM BOCES
Board of Education Vice President Josephine Watts.
When Helena was chosen to receive the HFM BOCES Service Award in
2005, Mrs. Watts said she was disappointed she didn't get to
have her picture taken with Helena. So that was remedied during
the party, with both women happily posing to commemorate the
occasion.
