Library System honors two superintendents as ‘Administrators of
the Year’ During the 16th annual School Library
Systems awards luncheon on May 23, two local school district
superintendents were named “Administrators of
the Year” for 2007.
Sharing the honors
were Robert DeLilli, superintendent of Wheelerville Union Free
School District, and Dr. Harry Brooks, interim superintendent of
Northville Central School District. “Robert
DeLilli’s leadership in the area of the library media center has
been unparalleled in my years at Wheelerville Union Free
School,” said media specialist Carol Barker, who nominated him
for the award. Mr. DeLilli’s efforts have included securing
grant funding for up-to-date technology to broaden the media
center’s services, as well as implementing a flexible library
schedule to allow for lesson collaboration with classroom
teachers.
“Mr. DeLilli recognizes that the media
center plays an extremely important role in educating our
students,” she said.
This is Dr. Brooks’
second award, having also been named administrator of the year
12 years ago when he was superintendent of Broadalbin-Perth
Central School District, where his support of his school
libraries was exemplary.
“He has proven that once a library
supporter, always a library supporter,” said Northville
media specialist Sharon Marie Perrella, who nominated Dr.
Brooks for this year’s award. As interim superintendent at
Northville, Dr. Brooks has ensured adequate library staffing
in all circumstances and increased the library budget to
purchase needed new materials and current databases. He also
made it possible to complete a move to the system-wide
automated library catalog, putting the entire system of
resources straight into the students’ hands.
“Dr. Brooks’ record in aiding the
Northville media center is as sterling as his service in
Broadalbin-Perth was 12 years ago,” she said.
During the ceremony, Mr. DeLilli and Dr.
Brooks received letters of commendation from Assemblymen Marc
Butler and Paul Tonko, and from Senator Hugh Farley.
HFM BOCES Superintendent Dr. Geoffrey H. Davis also acknowledged
the important work done by the media specialists at all area
school districts, noting that they teach students to use current
technologies to enhance their education.
