This academically rigorous one-year program, located at Nathan
Littauer Hospital, is designed for high school seniors
interested in medical and health related professions.
Students enrolled in the New Visions Health Careers program
learn through traditional methods (lecture/discussion, reading
and research, writing and specific topic study) as well as
participation in clinical rotationsstructured
observations of medical professionals and procedures. These
experiences provide students an opportunity to directly learn
about the various health professions, appropriate patient care,
and the latest in medical treatments and testing.
English 12 and Social Studies 12 (Participation in Government
and Economics) are integrated into the health careers curriculum
offering a broad and rewarding learning opportunity.

Program Objectives:
Speak and write in-depth about connections between school and
work.
Develop career plans based on knowledge gained through direct
health career experiences.
Develop independent and group learning skills to prepare for
college level education.
Apply previously learned academic knowledge and professional
skills to complete tasks and problem solve.
Clarify career goals, giving students a greater understanding
of the daily demands and rewards of a variety of career fields.
Develop the study/organizational skills and maturity to
transition to college studies.

New Visions Program Application Requirements:
High school students interested in the New Visions Health
careers program should contact their guidance counselor to begin
the program application in February of their junior year.
Completion of the application form as soon as possible is
appreciated.
Required Program Components:
To participate in the program, the student must be a senior who
has:
Maintained a minimum of an 85% overall average while in high
school
Demonstrated a genuine interest in the health care field
Maturity to work with patients experiencing a wide variety of
medical conditions
The ability to work independently and collaboratively
Maintained an excellent attendance record throughout high
school. The New Visions Health Careers program is a
participation based program, thus attendance is vital to
success.
Met academic requirements for senior year status through home
school districts
Successfully completed 3 years of science
Successfully completed 3 years of math
Recommended by a high school guidance counselor and two
teachers
Completed a New Visions Health Careers application form and
personal interview

Requirements Upon Acceptance:
Due to the extent of patient contact at Nathan Littauer
Hospital, New Visions Health Careers students must meet the
following requirements:
Physical exam (must obtain appropriate form)
Mantoux Skin test (within one year of beginning of the
program)
Proof of Rubella immunity (1 vaccine after first
birthday/titer/medical examination)

above by family physician must be sent to: Gail Fisher, New
