We are tasked with providing quality educational opportunities to all our students in a time of heightened accountability and a stubborn economy. The challenges are daunting. Yet, opportunities abound—when we work together—to motivate and successfully equip students for their future after high school.

It is our continuing mission and goal to provide our 15 component school districts with the highest quality programs and services at the lowest cost. We are proud to support a broad student population with a wide range of educational needs. Please let us know how we can better serve you as we build our future together.

[Adopted Aug. 29, 2012]

The HFM BOCES Board will focus on these
initiatives during the 2012-13 school year.

Evolving Identity of HFM BOCES

Recast the mission and vision of HFM BOCES to relate to the current educational, economic and political climate.
Reinforce strong partnerships with our component school districts and Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
Expand and market career and technical education and specialized programs for the benefit of our region.

Regionalization

Continue to expand regional efforts by partnering with other BOCES, state, and private entities across the state.
Explore and foster partnerships with local municipalities for shared services and efficiency.
Strengthen outreach of regional communications to promote BOCES initiatives.

Changes in Open Meeting Law (Effective February 2012)

A new section 103(e) of the Open Meetings Law ensures that the public has access to the materials under discussion by a public body prior to a meeting.

HFM BOCES Board of Education, committed to open and transparent conduct of business, will make every practicable effort to provide access to records that are “scheduled to be the subject of a discussion” during any open meeting.

The amendment addresses two types of records: first, those that are required to be made available pursuant to FOIL; and second, proposed resolutions, law, rules, regulations, policies or amendments thereto. When either is scheduled to be discussed during an open meeting, the law requires that they be made available to the public, to the extent practicable, either prior to or at the meeting.

Since HFM BOCES website is the first and best source of information about the organization, meeting agendas, minutes and applicable documents will be available here at the same time they are made available to board members. Documents are also available upon request from the superintendent's office. There may be a fee for printed materials.

Members of the HFM BOCES Board of Education are volunteers who are elected by members of the Boards of Education of our component school districts to serve for three-year terms.
