Career & Tech introduces new program
for 2011-12
Engineering Technology offers entree to future nanotech careers
Starting in the fall of 2011, area juniors will have the
opportunity to earn college credit while exploring careers in
emerging technologies, setting the stage for advanced training
and job prospects in many of the companies growing in Tech
Valley.
Engineering
Technology is the newest two-year discipline added to HFM BOCES
Career & Technical Education division. The rigorous program is a
collaborative partnership between HFM BOCES, Fulton-Montgomery

Knowledge for College
A College Answer®
newsletter for college-bound students and their parents
Making the BIG Decision!
It’s time to focus on finding your dream school. There’s no time
to waste, you have things to do and decisions to make—first is
deciding where to apply. With thousands of colleges and
universities nationwide, many need help narrowing down the
choices.
Be open minded as you investigate your options. Many students
find that their initial college of choice ends up lower on the
list once they learn about the other options out there.

Planning for college
What parents can do: Be a partner in their child's progress
When it comes to your child's hopes to continue his education,
communication is key. If you haven't had this conversation yet,
bring it up, the sooner the better. If he initiates the
conversation, be a patient and attentive listener. Ask
questions. How much research has he done? Has he talked to his
school counselor? Does he have any idea where he wants to go to
school? Has he thought about how to pay? If you
have concerns, be honest about them, but keep an open mind.
