Archived 11/13/2009 Does BOCES provide hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap? The restroom soap dispensers at HFM BOCES contain an anti-microbial lotion soap. Hand sanitizer stations are also now provided at HFM BOCES. However, NYSED Facilities Planning Director Carl Thurnau states that parents should not send any disinfectants, cleaners, sanitizers or any other chemicals to school for any reason. Access to such chemicals must be maintained and controlled by the school, and proper MSDS sheets and inventory control be maintained for safety purposes. According to HFM BOCES Teacher Association President Nancy Turnbull, if an employee feels that the lack of sanitizer and liquid soap at their location is a health concern, they should go to their director and request that it be purchased. "If they fill out a requisition and justify it, it shouldn't be denied," Ms. Turnbull said. The CDC recommends thorough and frequent hand washing with soap as a primary preventive measure against transmitting influenza-like illness. [Back] |
